My collage style comes from designing fliers for punk shows in the 90s! I started booking shows because I wanted to participate, wanted to be more tangibly involved with the music I was listening to, and I just kind of fell in love with it. The flier was like, the packaging for the show, was this artistic representation of the moment you were curating, like an album cover. So it all stems from wanting to create a unique visual idea for events I was planning, and it just evolved over the years and spilled out until it became its own thing. When I was younger, I honestly always loved clothes but I never knew the process of making clothes. I never really had people I could go to, to ask questions. But I learned how to screenprint at a young age through all the great art programs that there are in Providence. Through me being in different bands, I would design and print all the merch. Today is Valentine’s Day to all, but to 19-year old emcee DHANTÉ fans, future and present, it’s his birthday and the day he drops the visuals to “Can’t We Smile.” DHANTÉ grew up on Long Island and in Flatbush, Brooklyn to a Guyanese father and Jamaican mother with soca, reggae, and dancehall being played in his household. Outside of the house, BK impacted his music, drawing influence from Pro Era. At first he was a singer, but he fell in love with emceeing almost immediately after a studio invite. Pink Daydream Q&A With Ariya Sonethavy

I’ve been obsessed with the color red since high school. Maybe because I was listening to Taylor Swift’s Red a lot and I was wearing a lot of red (I still do). I think the color represents intensity and the tumultuousness of… any emotion. Love, anger, passion. I like how red contains pinks and beiges, which is what I’m really drawn to when I make any kind of visual art. The red and pink color palette of “bubbling froth” is meant to embody intimacy in its most raw form — it’s an experimental short about the franticness of love, how meeting someone new makes you feel like you’re “blooming” (hence the second title card).
